Description

Allen Bradley 1756-L55M13 ControlLogix Processor Module

The Allen-Bradley 1756-L55M13 is a processor module for ControlLogix industrial control systems which fully supports controller redundancy. The 1756-L55M13 contains 1536 KB of user memory. The module also contains 208 KB of I/O memory. Non-volatile memory is not included but optional CompactFlash memory modules (available in 64 and 128 MB versions) can be ordered separately. The 1756-L55M13 requires a battery for providing power to the user memory. The recommended battery module is the 1756-BATM, which lasts for 299 days at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Two other battery modules are supported by the 1756-L55M13 and they are recommended as replacements. These include the 1756-BA1 which provides backup for 63 days at 77 degrees Fahrenheit and the 1756-BATA which provides backup for 299 days at 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

1756-L55M13 manual

The Allen-Bradley 1756-L55M13 is a Series A ControlLogix 5555 controller. While this particular controller does not have a nonvolatile memory available, it does have a 1.5 Mbytes data and logic memory and 208 kbytes I/O memory available. The 1756-L55M13 controller also has a weight of 0.35 g or 12.5 oz. It does not have an enclosure type rating since it is an open-style controller.

It also has the capacity to support the following communication options: DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet/IP, Universal Remote I/O serial, Data Highway Plus, Modbus via ladder routine, SynchLink, and DH-485.

The 1756-L55M13 has backplane currents of 0.014A at 24V DC and 1.23 A at 5.1V DC. Its thermal dissipation is 19.1 BTU/hr, while its power dissipation is 5.6W. It has a basic insulation type and a continuous isolation voltage of 30V and has also been tested to withstand 707V DC for 60s. The conducted RF immunity of the 1756-L55M13 controller is 10V rms with 1 kHz sine-wave 80%AM from 150 kHz to 80 MHz.

The storage temperature of the controller is between -40 to 85 Degrees Celsius and the operating temperature is between 0 to 60 Degrees Celsius. Relative humidity, which is noncondensing, is from 5% to 95%. It has a vibration of 2 g at 10 to 500 Hz, an operating shock of 30 g, and a non-operating shock of 50 g.

This controller has batteries that can be replaced but only if needed and is only compatible with the 1756-BA1 lithium battery. It can only be connected with either the 1756-CP3 or 1747-CP3 programming cable. The 1756-L55M13 controller can be used in a redundant controller system but it needs to be located in the same ControlNet network.

FAQs

Q1: Is the 1756-L55M13 still supported by Rockwell Automation?

A: While discontinued, technical support and legacy firmware are available. Consider migrating to newer controllers like the 1756-L8x series for long-term support.

Q2: Can it communicate with modern protocols like EtherNet/IP?

A: Yes, with a 1756-ENBT or 1756-EN2T Ethernet/IP module installed in the chassis.

Q3: How to migrate programs from the L55M13 to a newer ControlLogix controller?

A: Use Rockwell's Project Migrator Tool in Studio 5000, but note some logic may require manual adjustments.

Q4: What is the maximum number of I/O modules per chassis?

A: Up to 16 modules per 1756-A4 chassis, but total power consumption must not exceed the chassis capacity.
