Product Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1746-A7 is a mounting rack with 7 slots that is part of the SLC 500 family of products. The 1746-A7 mounting rack is used to hold processors and modules from the SLC 500 family. For expansion, three extra racks can be connected to the 1746-A7 by interconnecting cables. The cables that can be used with the 1746-A7 are the 1746-C7, 1746-C9, and 1746-C16. There are no replacements for these cables. The 1746-A7 requires individual power supply mounted on the far left of the chassis. The 1746-A7 modular chassis accommodates the processor, adapter module, and the I/O modules all in one place.

Description

The Allen-Bradley 1746-A7 houses the modular processor, communication adapter module, and input and output modules. This chassis is built with 7 slots that is part of the SLC 500 Modular Chassis that provide flexibility in the configuration of systems. In a modular system, each chassis will require its own power supply. The SLC 500 1746-A7 Modular Chassis can be used as a standalone unit in one system or can work with another one or two local chassis. The chassis interconnection cable can be used to build multiple chassis configurations and extend signal lines. This can create a total of 30 I/O slots at maximum. Interconnect chassis vertically with the 1746-C9 cable or 1746-C16 cable that comes in different lengths. Both cables have a rigid, unbending shrink wrap for strain relief when linking modules with one below another. For a horizontal layout, use the 1746-C7 cable. Do not use any other cables for the setup. Longer cables may affect data communication integrity leading to unsafe operation.
Running a ground connection from the 1746-A7 Chassis to the ground bus reduces electrical resistance. When grounding, do not lay one lug directly on top of another. Compression can cause these connections to become loose. The 1746-A7 has a maximum backplane current of 5.1 Volts DC at 10A or 24 Volts DC at 2.88A. For optimal performance, operate in temperatures between 0 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit), and relative humidity of 5% to 95% (without condensation).
The 1746-A7 is an SLC 500 chassis that provides mounting to SLC 500 modules such as SLC processors, SLC IO modules, SLC Communication adapters and specialty module.
