The Allen-Bradley 1746-IN16 is a 24 VDC / 24VAC Sinking input module. This module features Sixteen (16) sinking channels that may be used to interface with discrete input signals that operates with 10-30 VDC and VAC voltage ranges.
Input modules are used by the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to interface with the process. The actuation of each individual channel represents the actual state of device. Each channel of this module has a dedicated LED indicator to provide visual feedback if the channel has active power or not. These LEDs may also be used as troubleshooting reference as it confirms if the signal coming from the field side has reached the module.

Allen-Bradley 1746-IN16 is a 16-channel digital input module of the SLC 500 series. It supports 24V DC signal acquisition and is designed for discrete signal detection in industrial automation. The module adopts a compact structure, is compatible with the standard 1746 backplane, and provides a high-density input solution, which is suitable for scenarios such as equipment status monitoring and safety interlocking.
1. High reliability signal acquisition
The module has 16 independent isolated input channels, each channel supports 24V DC level detection, and the input filter time is adjustable (0-20ms), which effectively suppresses field interference. Through optoelectronic isolation technology, 2500Vrms isolation voltage between channels is achieved to ensure the stability of signal acquisition, which is particularly suitable for applications such as motor start-stop status monitoring and limit switch detection.
2. Flexible system integration
Supports direct access to SLC 5/03/04/05 controllers and high-speed data exchange (1ms scanning cycle) through the backplane. It can be expanded to a distributed I/O system and connected to the DeviceNet network with the 1747-SDN module. Built-in input status cache function, which keeps the last valid state when communication is interrupted, is suitable for key scenarios such as conveyor line emergency stop signal collection.
3. Industrial-grade durable design
The module meets the operating temperature range of -20℃~60℃, and the vibration resistance reaches 5G (in compliance with IEC 60068-2-6 standard). It adopts a detachable terminal block design and supports live replacement and maintenance. Each channel is equipped with an LED status indicator (green-signal valid/red-fault) to facilitate quick troubleshooting of on-site problems. It is typically used in humid and dusty environments such as food processing and packaging machinery.
