Overview

The FBM214b HART Communication Input Modulecontains eight 4 to 20 mA individually isolated analoginput channels. It supports any mix of standard4-20 mA devices and HART devices.The FBM214b serves as a HART communicationsfield device host, enabling the Foxboro Evo™ systemto request and receive two digital messages persecond from the field device. The message passthrough capability can be used to support HARTuniversal, common practice, and device-specificcommands, but not the burst communication mode.These commands are implemented using the Intelligent Field Device Configurator Foxcom™ andHART™ Protocols.

STANDARD DESIGN

The FBM214b has a rugged extruded aluminumexterior for physical protection of the circuits.Enclosures specially designed for mounting theFBMs provide various levels of environmentalprotection, up to harsh environments per ISAStandard S71.04.

HIGH ACCURACY

For high accuracy, the module incorporates a SigmaDelta converter which can provide new analog inputvalues for each channel every 100 milliseconds.

VISUAL INDICATORS

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) incorporated into thefront of the module provide visual indication of themodule's operational status, and communicationactivity on the channels.

EASY REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT

The module can be removed/replaced withoutremoving field device termination cabling, power, orcommunications cabling.

FIELDBUS COMMUNICATION

A Fieldbus Communication Module or a ControlProcessor interfaces the redundant 2 Mbps moduleFieldbus used by the FBMs. The FBM214b moduleaccepts communication from either path (A or B) ofthe redundant 2 Mbps fieldbus – should one path failor be switched off at the system level, the modulecontinues communication over the active path.The use of an external power supply common to twoor more loops requires a Cable Balun Module tomaintain communication signal line balance.
