The Allen-Bradley 1756-CN2RXT is a redundant media, ControlNet communication bridge module where controller-to-controller interlocking and I/O updates always take precedence over messaging and program uploads and downloads. It is part of the ControlNet Communication Module series and is ideal for applications that require the use of 128 ControlNet connections per communication module. A ControlLogix-XT model it can provide control in operating environments where temperatures range between -25 and 70 °C (-13 and 158 °F). The 1756-CN2RXT ControlNet Interface supports a total of 99 nodes and 131 connections –128 standard Logix connections plus 3 reserved for redundant control. Because these are reserved, the 3 connections will always appear in use even when they are open. The module comes with a communication rate of 5 Mbps, current draws of 1300 mA at 5.1V DC, and of 3 mA at 24V DC. Its isolation voltage is 30V (continuous) with a basic insulation type. The 1756-CN2RXT Module features one USB 1.1 full speed (12 Mbps) port and two ControlNet BNC ports requiring the 1786-RG6 quad-shield RG6 coaxial cable. It can occupy any chassis-based slot and is compatible with the 1756-A4LXT, 1756-A5XT, 1756-A7XT, and the 1756-A7LXT ControlLogix Chassis.
Connect to Other Devices via a ControlNet Network
The Studio 5000 environment supports a generic ControlNet module that allows connections to ControlNet nodes for which there is nospecific support currently available in the programming software. A module configured as a generic ControlNet module communicates withthe controller in the form of input, output, status, and configuration tags.For example, use the generic module configuration to configure communication between a ControlLogix controller and a 1203-CN1 ControlNetcommunication module. Then use the CIP generic MSG instruction type to send and receive messages from the 1203-CN1 module.
