About 1734-IB8S

The 1734-IB8S is a POINT Guard I/O safety Discrete Input Module. This module is used with the POINT I/O product family for implementing Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) safety protocol extension implemented over Ethernet I/P and DeviceNet communication protocol. Through these protocol and connections, safety messages can be transferred. It is not compatible with 1734-ADN, 1734-ADNX, 1734-APB, and 1734-ACNR communication adapters. This module features Eight (8) Current Sinking inputs with a ON state input of 11-30V at 3.5 mA DC and reaction time of less than 16.2 ms. It also has Four (4) Current Sourcing Pulse Test Outputs with T0, T1M, T2 and T3M output sources. This safety module is available in series A and Series B. With Series A, the module consumes current of 175 mA while Series B has current consumption of 110 mA. Series A tends to dissipate more heat thus, it is recommended to use termination modules particularly 1734-CTM or the Common Terminal Module. Series B modules are designed with less heat dissipation thus CTM modules are not recommended unless required by the control system design. Series B module cannot be used to replace a Series A module in a plug and play manner. Similarly, a Series A module cannot do the same plug and play replacement. EDS files must be loaded to these module to be recognized in the network. The 1734-IB8S features compatibility with safety devices such as gate switches, Emergency Stop Pushbuttons, light curtains and similar devices. It has Single channel mode that is used to evaluate an input signal per channel, allowing the module to be used in Safety Category 2 and in applications rated up to including performance Level d / SIL CL2. In this mode, the channelÕs Point Mode configuration is set to Safety Pulse Test. It also has Dual channel mode used for evaluation of consistency between Two (2) channels.
1734-IB8S Digital Input Module Features
• Safety digital inputs
– Safety devices, such as an Emergency Stop Push Button, gate switches, and safety light curtains, can be connected.
– Dual-channel mode evaluates consistency between two input signals(channels), which allows use of the module for safety Category 3 and 4and in applications that are rated up to and including PLe/SIL CL3when both channels' Point Mode configurations are set to Safety PulseTest.
– Single-channel mode evaluates one input signal (channel), which allowsuse of the module for safety Category 2 and in applications that arerated up to and including PLd/SIL CL2 when the channel's PointMode configuration is set to Safety Pulse Test.
– You can configure a discrepancy time to control how long two channelsare allowed to be discrepant before a fault is declared.
– It is possible to perform an external wiring short circuit check wheninputs are wired in combination with test outputs. The module must bewired in combination with test outputs when this function is used.
– Independently adjustable on and off delays are available per channel.
• Test outputs (digital input modules only)
– Separate test outputs are provided for short circuit detection of a safetyinput (or inputs).
– Power (24V) can be supplied to devices, such as safety sensors.
– Test outputs can be configured as standard outputs.
– Specific test outputs can be used for broken-wire detection of a mutinglamp.
