Both probes operate on the eddy current effect: A 2MHz high-frequency alternating current is applied to the probe tip coil, generating an alternating magnetic field . When the probe approaches a conductive target (e.g., rotor shaft), eddy currents are induced on the target surface. These eddy currents produce an opposing magnetic field that weakens the probe coil's field, altering its impedance (inductance and resistance) .
The magnitude of impedance change is directly proportional to the probe-to-target gap: smaller gaps create stronger eddy currents and greater impedance shifts. The 3300 XL preamplifier converts this impedance change into a linear voltage signal with a sensitivity of -7.87 V/mm . This signal is transmitted via the 4.1m/4.9m cable to the monitoring system, which calculates displacement, vibration amplitude, and speed using the formula: Displacement (mm) = Voltage Change (ΔV) / Sensitivity (S) .
