The IC697CMM742 Ethernet Interface (Type 2) provides high performance TCP/IP communications for the IC697 PLC.
The Ethernet Interface (Type 2) plugs into a single slot in an IC697 PLC rack and is configured with the IC641 PLC programming software. Up to four Ethernet Interface (Type 2) modules can be installed in an IC697 PLC CPU rack.

IC697CMM742 is an Ethernet Interface Module developed by GE. It is a part of Mark I and II control system. With versatile network port options, easily upgradeable firmware, and comprehensive diagnostic tools, this module enhances the efficiency and reliability of control systems across complex Ethernet-based networks.

The Ethernet Interface (Type 2) contains three network ports: 10BaseT (RJ-45 connector), 10Base2 (BNC connector), and AUI (15-pin D-connector). The Ethernet Interface automatically selects the network port in use. One network port may be used at a time.

The 10BaseT network port permits direct connection to a 10BaseT (twisted pair) network hub or repeater without an external transceiver.

The 10Base2 network port permits direct connection to a 10Base2 (ThinWire) network without an external transceiver.

The AUI network port permits attachment of a usersupplied AUI (Attachment Unit Interface, or transceiver)cable.

1. Station Address: Before installation, record the 12-digit default station address from the printed label on the Ethernet interface. A configuration data form is provided in the user manual for easy reference.

2. Power Off the PLC Rack: Ensure that power to the IC697 PLC rack is off.

3. Insert the Module: Slide the Ethernet Interface module into the designated slot, typically the first available to the right of the CPU or Bus Transmitter Module (BTM), and secure with the screws on the top and bottom tabs. Empty slots to the left of the module may disrupt operation.

• Connect to the Network: Connect the Ethernet Interface to the network via one of the three ports. If using an AUI port with an external transceiver, ensure the cable links to an IEEE 802.3-compatible transceiver. The Disable Onboard 10Base2 Port jumper should be in place if using an external transceiver that doesn't need +12 VDC power from the AUI port.

4. CPU Run/Stop: Set the CPU's Run/Stop switch to "STOP."

5. Power On: Turn on the PLC rack.

Connect the IC697 PLC to an IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD 10 Mbps Ethernet LAN using one of three network ports: 10BaseT, 10Base2, or AUI. Both 10BaseT and 10Base2 network ports allow direct network connection without requiring an external transceiver, while the standard 15-pin AUI port supports various media options, including 10Base5, 10Base2, 10BaseT, 10BaseF, or 10Broad36, using a user-supplied 802.3-compatible transceiver.

Preloaded firmware simplifies installation and is designed for indefinite maintenance. The firmware is also upgradeable directly in-system from a PC connected to the RS-485 serial port, enabling easy updates.

Offers Ethernet Global Data (EGD) for configuration and logic-based data exchange, TCP/IP services via SRTP, full PLC programming and configuration, as well as comprehensive station management and diagnostic tools for optimal network management.
