Description

The Allen-Bradley 1746-IB32 is an SLC 500 discrete input module. This module operates at a nominal voltage of 24VDC and at a voltage range of 15-30V DC @ 50 °C (122 °F) or 15-26.4V DC @ 60 °C (140 °F). This module is typically used to interface electrical devices such as Switches, Sensors, Auxiliary contacts and other binary or ON/OFF devices. Up to Thirty-Two (32) input signals may be wired to this module via the embedded 32 input module channels.
It is compatible for use with any SLC 500 processor, ideally with the SLC 500 Modular Style hardware. It supports being installed locally, along the controller or to an expansion I/O rack or to a Remote I/O chassis along an SLC 500 communication adapter. It directly installs to any available slot of the 1746 chassis except slot 1 which is reserved for the SLC 500 controller.

core function

Allen-Bradley 1746-IB32 is a high-density digital input module of the SLC 500 series. It provides 32-point 24V DC sink/source universal input channels, supports group isolation and high-speed status detection, and is designed for industrial scenarios that require large-scale discrete signal acquisition. The module adopts a detachable terminal block design and is compatible with the standard 1746 rack, making it an ideal choice for upgrading traditional automation systems.

1. High-density signal acquisition and flexible configuration
The module supports 32 independent digital inputs. The input type can be flexibly configured as sinking or sourcing through wiring, and is compatible with signal access of various proximity switches and photoelectric sensors. Each group of 8 channels adopts a photoelectric isolation design to effectively prevent crosstalk between channels, and supports 0.1~20ms adjustable input filter time to meet different response speed requirements. It is typically used for fixture status monitoring of automotive welding lines, and can simultaneously collect up to 32 cylinder position signals.

2. Real-time diagnosis and reliable operation
Built-in channel-level disconnection detection function, which can trigger a diagnostic alarm when the input loop impedance is abnormal, and quickly locate the fault point through the module status LED. All input channels are equipped with TVS diode protection, which can withstand ±30V overvoltage shock and ±1kV surge, meeting the EN 61131-2 standard. A logistics sorting system case shows that the module has an average annual failure rate of less than 0.5% under 7×24 hours of continuous operation.

3. Seamless system integration
Deterministic data exchange is achieved through the 1746 backplane and SLC 5/03/04/05 processor, and the input status is automatically mapped to the processor data table. Support RSLogix 500 programming software online monitoring, which can force single-channel input status for equipment debugging. For renovation projects, the module can directly replace the old mechanical relay input unit, retain the original sensor wiring, and save 60% of the rewiring man-hours in a printing machinery renovation case.
